Aston Martin have appointed Mike Krack as their new team principal. He has previously worked in F1 with the Sauber team but left the sport after BMW quit the sport in 2009. Krack has replaced Otmar Szafnauer in the team after his exit earlier this week. Szafnauer took over the top responsibility of the team in 2018 but could not yield the expected results.
The 2021 F1 season was a tough one for the Silverstone-based team. The best finish came in the Azerbaijan GP with Sebastian Vettel finishing second. This was the sole podium for the team in the entire season. The line-up of Stroll and Vettel put up some impressive performances, but the team lacked consistency on the grid.
Though the newly appointed team principal has not been closely associated with the sport for a while, he carries enough experience under his belt from previous F1 days. Notably, he has also worked in F3 for a while before switching back to a full-time role in BMW. The German has closely worked with F1 legend Sebastian Vettel during his BMW Sauber days as well.

Aston Martin team principal can convince Sebastian Vettel to stay in the team
Sebastian Vettel completed his first season with the Aston Martin team in 2021, giving them their first and only podium in Azerbaijan. Vettel had a moderately successful stint with Ferrari from 2015 to 2020, but his ambitions with the team were not fulfilled and he moved to the Silverstone-based team.

However, the new team boss has worked with a totally different Vettel, the one in his primitive years of F1. Vettel made his debut in the 2007 United States GP with the BMW Sauber team, and Krack was a part of that garage. Before that, he was a test driver and then a race reserve for the Sauber team.
Sauber released him and he went to Toro Rosso and then Red Bull, and the rest, as they say, is history. Years later, the two of them will share the same garage and many believe Krack can be the key in convincing Vettel to stay at Aston Martin.
It will be interesting to see how he does this, dealing with a team owner who is also a racing dad, and a team that is in a state of considerable flux at the moment. With a new season around the corner, teams are gearing up for the challenges ahead. Will this reshuffle help Aston Martin in 2022? We will know soon enough.
