The unfortunate tale of the 2nd Red Bull driver is what upcoming motorsport training schools will include in their syllabus. This is Sergio Perez‘s era to face the unfortunate consequences of his underwhelming performance at Red Bull. Compared to Max Verstappen, he is failing but in the bigger sense of things, he is failing in the fastest car on the grid. And if this continues, experts believe that Christian Horner and Co. will soon axe him from the team.

The 33-year-old racer started the weekend with a crash in FP1 because of a rookie mistake. As much as that must’ve irritated the team, getting into Q3 was his and the team’s main aim. And finally, after 5 race weekends of getting eliminated before Q3, he did it. He got into Q3 but his lap time was 4 tenths off Max Verstappen‘s and only good enough for P9. In the latest episode of BBC’s Chequered Flag podcast, the hosts discussed the same, warning Perez to improve or dare to face the wrath of Christian Horner.

The host said, “It does seem like there are some cracks. He [Sergio Perez] would really, really have to turn on an amazing performance now, I think, to undo the damage that has been done in the last few races. Historically, the Red Bull bosses haven’t had to wait very long to form a negative opinion of the drivers that have started this sort of downward spiral, as many people call it. I am not sure if he’s be gonna able to do enough to improve that.”

His co-host agreed with him, saying, “You never know with Red Bull, do you?” And this is one thing that most people can agree with. One can never know the kind of overnight decisions the Milton-Keynes outfit makes.

The Mexican racer might not have got the best possible result on Saturday. But it was a step up compared to the last 5 Qualifying and he plans to build on this improvement.

Sergio Perez Anticipating Promising Finish On Sunday at the Hungarian GP

Sergio Perez looked quite satisfied with his Qualifying showing at the Hungaroring. If you look at the last few races, there is an improvement. And instead of comparing his performance with his overachieving teammate’s performance, he has chosen to focus on his development.

“I think we always knew that we had the pace and we just needed a solid weekend and it’s been a solid day,” said Perez, after Qualifying. “It could have gone either way, but I think what matters is tomorrow, and I believe that we can fight from there.”

The silver lining for Perez and Red Bull is that he’s at least starting in the Top 10. And as he’s shown before, his race pace can allow him to climb the grid. Will he get to the podium or not? – Now that’s an interesting topic for debate.
