“I don’t know how I survived.” These were the words of the Chinese driver, Zhou Guanyu. He was involved in one of the most frightening crashes in Formula 1 history. The crash occurred as soon as the opening lap of the British Grand Prix went underway at Silverstone. Fans watched videos of the incident from multiple angles on a loop. The Netflix docuseries, Drive to Survive, has apparently included the horrific crash “four million times” in the limited series.

The most eventful race of the 2022 season took place at the iconic Silverstone circuit. DTS had to touch upon the aforementioned race to highlight the season’s key moments. The highlights included Mick Schumacher’s first points, Lewis Hamilton‘s double overtake, and the infamous Zhou crash. The producers felt compelled to revisit the race. However, they could have left the crash out of the highlights. In Pitstop Podcast hosted by Jake Boys and Fabio Bocca, they discussed the crash and the overexploitation of the same for viewership.

The conversation between the podcaster duo begins with Jake saying, ” Did we need to show? Zhou’s crash, this many times?” To which Bocca replies in disappointed exaggeration, “Like four million times.”

The video ends with Jake saying, “Like I get that we had to keep going back to Silverstone. But that storyline wasn’t every time about the beginning of the race. Did you need to show the beginning of the race and this crash over and over again?”

The stunt isn’t the only one that didn’t go down well with the audience. While the podcast slammed the over usage of the Silverstone footage, under the usage of another entity.

They featured Sebastian Vettel in season 5 of Drive to Survive for merely a few seconds. The irony of the newest edition of the docuseries is they have only stuck to tried and tested stories. In the process, they missed out on the historic ones. One of the greatest drivers of all-time, quadruple champion Vettel, announced his retirement last season and DTS stuck to running reruns of Zhou’s crash.

As per Racing Lines and Racing 365, “Not all the drivers on last year’s grid feature in the new Drive to Survive season. Valtteri Bottas, Lance Stroll, and Nicholas Latifi don’t appear in the new season, with surprisingly Sebastian Vettel also barely seen in the latest series.
