The dumbest move ever. This is the lens through which the world viewed Lewis Hamilton‘s hundred-million-dollar move to Mercedes. Money couldn’t have been the only factor the Briton decided to move away from the iconic team his idol, Ayrton Senna, once drove for. And it was the gamble that catapulted Hamilton to create history. Now once again finding himself at a juncture where his iconic team hasn’t served him with a car he deserves, he is being compelled to make that move.

Mercedes made a mistake last year when they stuck with the unconventional zero side-pod design, which has guaranteed zero championships to them. But the 8x champion team probably being too confident didn’t change it coming into 2023. This had made Hamilton a very angry man. And now, as that anger is shifting to despair, he is being urged to jump ships.

In Formula for Success Podcast, ex-F1 team boss, Eddie Jordan said, “My only concern is that Lewis has to find something else in his mojo now and he needs to get out of there. He needs to move on just like he did when he was with McLaren. Get out of Mercedes, Lewis. It’s time you reinvented yourself somewhere else.”

Ferrari brought Michael Schumacher on board. While it took him a few years, he brought glory back to Maranello and left the team as a 7x champion. Similarly, Mercedes brought Lewis on board from McLaren and scripted history. Now it did require the likes of Niki Lauda to convince Hamilton, but Ferrari has no less iconic figures to send over. And hence Maranello is being asked to follow in the footsteps of Brackley.

As quoted by Motorsports, Herbert said, “Ferrari has to sell itself the same way. Lewis has yet to extend his contract, which allows him to look elsewhere. Why not? Ferrari has to be an option. He can’t go to Red Bull or Aston Martin. I know Ferrari is not getting what they want right now, but they certainly have potential.”
