As the partnership between Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton flourished, winning became the new normal. While the team churned out great championship-winning cars year after year, Lewis made the best of those opportunities by delivering trophies. In an interview with Toto Wolff, Hamilton’s win-or-nothing attitude was rightly compared to the likes of Kobe Bryant and Tom Brady. However, the Mercedes team boss felt his main man had carved out a niche for himself.

In competitive sports, it is often said that winning is a habit. That habit is inculcated by developing a superior skill set backed by a fierce attitude. We witnessed it all when Kobe Bryant was dominating the basketball court. We witnessed that in the confident strides, Tom Brady took when he walked onto the field. And we witnessed that when Lewis Hamilton displayed perfection, lap after lap, race after race.

Speaking with Maxim in 2020 about Lewis’ comparisons with the greats, Toto Wolff said, “Certainly the names that you mentioned, Kobe Bryant and Tom Brady, are superstars. I think we all are in a way different people driven by different values and different personalities. I think there is no one philosophy or one recipe for success. It’s very important to be nonjudgmental and not put somebody in a box and say, this is how you need to be in order to be successful.”

He didn’t just inspire the future generation of basketball players, but also fellow athletes from other sports to excel in their respective fields. Therefore, when he passed away, a huge void was left behind.
