LeBron James and Lewis Hamilton have been friends for some while. Both have stood up against racism many times, using their platforms to enlighten people about social evil. The Briton was also spotted watching the LA Lakers game against the Warriors and putting up a story on Instagram supporting LeBron James. However, an ESPN member recently used the LA Lakers’ defeat against the Nuggets to slap Lewis Hamilton and Co. as F1’s carefully laid regulations failed to achieve the goal they were set for.

Formula 1 has been trying to promote closer racing to make the spectacle entertaining for the viewers. For the same reason, they carefully laid the 2022 regulations which saw the return of ground effect cars and made the front and rear wings simpler to reduce the dirty air. Cost caps have also been introduced to bridge the spending gap between the teams. Despite F1’s effort to promote closer racing, Red Bull has been the dominant force in the era of F1 with 5 wins out of 5 races this season.

Mercedes, who dominated for 8 years prior to the news regulations, is nowhere near. ESPN Director/Programming & Acquisitions John Suchenski suggested that despite the best-laid plans, no one can control the competition. Schenck gave the example of LeBron James and Co. who lost all the games to the Denver Nuggets in the finals. Although it would be nice for Mercedes to challenge the Red Bulls, all we can do is accept the result and tell stories about it.

According to the sportsbusinessjournal.com, John Suchenski said, “The best-laid plans are the best-laid plans, but at the end of the day, we don’t control competition — that goes for all sports. Look at the NBA Finals and the Lakers not getting through there. We can’t control that, so we just have to take the results and try to tell the stories that do exist. Would we want this year to be more competitive? Absolutely, we would say that parity is typically good because it creates drama. … But again, I’d be lying if I didn’t say we [would] want to see some drama play out over the next couple of weeks as the season continues to progress.”

Mercedes hasn’t done enough to catch the Red Bulls much this season and all they can do right now is accept their dominance and hope for future upgrades to bridge the gap. However, there is a little ray of hope as Lewis Hamilton talks about the major upgrades brought to Monaco.

The new upgrades for Mercedes were due for Imola GP but unfortunately, that got canceled. Now with this new package in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton seems to be happier with the car. He explained that the W14 was feeling good and that he definitely felt an improvement over the previous iteration of the car. With the direction of development looking positive, Mercedes looks set to make gains in the future.

According to SkySports.com, Lewis Hamilton said, “I’ve generally had an amazing day. I really enjoyed driving today. It’s not the place to ultimately test an upgrade but the car was generally feeling good. A bit of a shame we weren’t as close as I’d have hoped at the end of the session but definitely felt the improvements and we’ve just got to keep chipping away at it and see if we can squeeze any more juice out of the car.”
