LeBron James is currently waiting to lock horns with Nikola Jokic for the Western Conference Finals. That is after he once again put up a display of a gritty performance while playing against Golden State Warriors. The L-Train derailed Steph Curry‘s team’s defense by scoring 30 points, 9 assists, and winning 9 rebounds. The stupendous performance sent the Warriors packing out of the playoffs despite Curry scoring 32 points himself. Out there watching live action and rooting for King James was F1 heartthrob Lewis Hamilton himself. The Briton has now put out a message for LeBron showing how much the Lakers man left him in awe.
F1 is currently on a one-week break before the action resumes in Imola next weekend. Drivers are taking this time to blow off some steam. While Max Verstappen chose to keep the adrenaline running by participating in the virtual 24-hour Nurburgring, Lewis went out to watch LA Lakers v Golden State Warriors.

The recently concluded Miami GP was a starry affair, much like the last year’s inaugural edition. Well, the Lakers v Warriors was no different, as Hamilton managed to get his hands on courtside tickets. To accompany him was none other than Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
The duo could not have chosen a better day to attend the game as LeBron was in full swing and played his heart out. Given how important the game was, it was only natural for a seasoned campaigner like him to turn up the way he did. Left in awe of the Lakers man, Hamilton posted a picture of James on his Instagram Story with the caption, “killed it bro”. Lewis also put a blurry picture of himself cheering his heart out while standing behind the ref.
LeBron and Lewis’ friendship is not a new development, though. Being elite black athletes who are sensitive to the race issue, the duo has often appreciated each other’s efforts.
Hamilton once used LeBron’s example to slam FIA’s dictatorial order
Earlier last year, the FIA came up with a rule that mandated the drivers to ask for permission before making any political statement during a race weekend. The decision was met with instant criticism as it dangerously treaded close to the controversy LeBron James became a part of earlier. Owing to some of his comments on former POTUS Donald Trump, Fox News’ Laura Ingraham told James to not muddle himself in politics and “shut up and dribble”.

Criticizing FIA’s attempt to muzzle drivers’ free speech, as per GP Fans, Hamilton said, “Free speech? You know, there are people who say to LeBron James, ‘Shut up and dribble,’ like people put you in a box and say you can only do one thing. and focus on that.” [Translated using Google]
“You know, I was winning but I was missing something: a goal. Why am I here, in F1? Why am I the only person of color? There is a real lack of diversity. Among the drivers but also in the hundreds of trades related to motorsport.”
