Driving for 20 years in Formula 1, Kimi Raikkonen had one of the longest careers in the pinnacle of motorsports. The Iceman stayed away from the media’s attention during his active years in F1 and continues to do that after it. However, the fans recently got a glimpse into his life after retirement courtesy of an interview his wife Minttu gave.

In arguably one of the most thrilling seasons in F1, Kimi Raikkonen won his only World Drivers’ Championship (WDC) title in 2007. Driving for Ferrari, Raikkonen pipped Lewis Hamilton and his then-teammate at McLaren Fernando Alonso by just a single point to win the title.

What is Kimi Raikkonen up to after his retirement from Formula 1?

Kimi Raikkonen, known for his on track performances, was probably the most reserved driver in F1. One could sense his lack of enthusiasm in his pre and post-race interviews. Even when he would win a race or finish on the podium, he had the most subdued celebrations. He would, at most, let out his famous “Bwoah!” at the end of the race and thank the team for their effort. Therefore, it didn’t come as a surprise when the Fin distanced himself from public life.

Kimi’s wife Minttu Raikkonen recently gave a glimpse of his life in the latest interview with Seura. Minttu revealed, “We do quite a lot of things together, as we have always done before when he has been at home. For example, we often go to sports together. It hasn’t changed.”[Translated using Google]

Apart from spending time with his family, Kimi also acts as a mentor to his son Robin as he has already shown interest in karting. Minttu continued, “At the moment, Robin really likes it, but he can still change his mind. He also drives a microcar and a moped. Fortunately, Robin listens very carefully to how Kimi advises him and I am confident, although of course there are also many other drivers.”

After his last Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi in 2021, Kimi appeared for a one-off stint in NASCAR in August this year. Raikkonen raced at Watkins Glen but it didn’t go as he would have wanted. The former Ferrari champion DNF’d as he crashed hard into the barriers and hurt his wrist.

Talking about his future plans, Raikkonen said, “There’s no plans for anything after this. I wanted to have fun, to do as well as we can. I think it’s just a nice challenge, it’s a new experience.”
