Ever since Max Verstappen expressed his desire to leave the sport to pursue new racing avenues before he’s too old, it’s become a regular question for all F1 drivers. Many indulge in the hypothetical and reveal their fantasy racing league, and so did Sergio Perez. The Mexican is perhaps toward the end of his F1 career as he turns 34 in a few days and has spent a little over a decade in the sport. So, getting on the same bandwagon as his Red Bull teammate, Perez revealed his choice of alternate racing series.
The bandwagon we are talking about is the one in which Verstappen is putting people like Fernando Alonso to take them to race in Le Mans with him. The Spanish two-time F1 world champion has won the prestigious race on two occasions. With Alonso and Verstappen sharing their love for the 24-hour endurance race, Perez also revealed his preference in a causal conversation with Instagram content creator Frankie Muniz.
When Muniz asked, “If you weren’t racing in Formula 1, is there a series or type of car that you would look at and go ‘Man, that’s what I wanna do if I wasn’t in F1’?”

Perez replied, “I think there are great series out there. Le Mans LMP1 will be one of them. NASCAR, my brother raced there in Mexico and the US. NASCAR, I think, its quite a unique series as well. I race for a short period of time in the US and I really like the American vibe so I think the US will be nice to race.”
Well, he will get more opportunities to race in the US and feel the vibe with F1, if not NASCAR, if all goes according to plan. However, will we see Perez team up with Verstappen in the other racing series? NASCAR is out of the question for the Dutchman, but what about Le Mans? An F1 insider believes two other current F1 drivers would make a perfect pairing alongside Verstappen and Alonso ahead of the Mexican.
F1 insider reveals ideal traits to partner alongside Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso and we believe Sergio Perez doesn’t fit
Every Le Mans team needs three drivers, making it perhaps the most challenging team motorsport competition. The three drivers need to be on the same page and drive the same car for 24 hours without getting in each other’s way with the common goal in mind. This understanding of roles in the team and accepting your position in a Le Mans team is necessary.
Peter Windsor highlighted that when he made Lando Norris and Valtteri Bottas perfect candidates to partner with the two world champions, Verstappen and Alonso.

Windsor said, “I think Lando (Norris) probably would be a very good choice actually. I think I would go for Lando in that car, maybe Valtteri Bottas. I think he’d do the job as well, be quiet, just fit in very well. He’d be quick and he’d be organized.”
With Windsor’s explanation of a requirement for a third driver, one can see how Perez, who has already challenged Verstappen to a championship battle in F1, won’t fit well in this three-man team.

Perhaps we can see Perez in NASCAR if he decides to leave the circus. With Mexico a hop, skip, and a jump away, he wouldn’t mind US-dominated venues for most of his races, would he?
