Every sport has its GOAT. American football has Tom Brady, Tennis has Serena Williams and Formula 1 has Lewis Hamilton. However, ever so often, the GOAT status comes into contention, especially when the stars of the new generation start shining. But, recently, a veteran of the sport proved this wrong. He came from the sidelines and stunned the world. One of the people who saw the brilliance of the legendary driver was RJ Young, who went on to compliment NASCAR’s seven-time champion.

The American analyst and TV host praised Jimmie Johnson’s Daytona 500 performance. Daytona 500 is one of the most prestigious races of the year in the stock car racing series. Johnson, unfortunately, could not finish the race, however, his performance during the race earned him praise from many, including RJ Young.

Young, with his recent tweet, put Johnson on the top of the pile in his particular trade but made a clear distinction. RJ Young tweeted, “Jimmie Johnson is just one of those people who is better at their job than everybody else is at theirs. Others include: Tom Brady, Serena Williams, LeBron James, Lewis Hamilton, Viola Davis, you see my pace. Good Lord, this man can drive. #DAYTONA500″

Johnson’s performance was incredible despite the ongoing feud within his team. In fact, it was so good that RJ Young couldn’t help him compare to these GOATs.

This comparison to LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Lewis Hamilton is huge praise for anyone. Johnson rightly deserved so after his performance. However, while we are drawing comparisons, only one out of these GOATs can arguably challenge Johnson.

“I would love to do it and I think a street track, you know, like a street circuit. I wish racing wasn’t so restricted, I wish I could do Formula 1 and hop over and do a couple of street races. Because on the oval one, you got to really learn about the car and it takes a lot longer, I would imagine,” said Lewis, elaborating on his desire to race in NASCAR.

It’s been a few years since this conversation took place and there are no signs of Hamilton leaving Formula 1. Perhaps this could be a post-retirement plan for the 38-year-old.
