NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon enjoys a good friendship with Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton. The duo has frequently visited each other’s races in the past. Moreover, in 2018, Gordon mentioned Hamilton’s unique wish, which would have excited NASCAR and F1 fans alike.
The American was present in Mexico when Hamilton clinched his 5th championship in 2018. There, the Mercedes driver revealed his desire to drive in a NASCAR race one day.
In light of this, Gordon said on NASCAR on NBC podcast, “I think that would be amazing (if Hamilton ran in Daytona 500).”
He added, “In the past, we’ve seen IndyCar drivers come over to NASCAR. We all saw what happened when Fernando Alonso came to (the Indianapolis 500 in 2017) or the 24 (Rolex 24 in 2018), how great that is.”
As things stand, Lewis looks to keep his eyes set on F1 for the time being as he chases his record 8th world title. He endured a difficult season with Mercedes this year and will be itching to challenge Verstappen for the title again next year.
Lewis Hamilton expresses his desire to continue in F1 for a longer period
After suffering the setback in Abu Dhabi in 2021 and a tough year this time out, Lewis Hamilton is still inspired to continue in F1 for the time being. The Silver Arrows star has also claimed that he plans to drive for his current team indefinitely as he squashes any rumors surrounding his retirement.
Lewis mentioned, “I know what I want to do — I plan on staying longer. It’s just not set in stone how long. I plan on staying with Mercedes for the rest of my life, that’s a definite.”

He also said, “It’s more figuring out what we are going to do down the line, even beyond racing I want to be building with Mercedes and there is a lot that Mercedes can do, it’s not just a car manufacturer.”
The 37-year-old will enter his 17th season in Formula 1 next year. Furthermore, Hamilton will also enter the last year of his current Mercedes deal. However, neither Lewis nor Toto Wolff are too concerned about that, as they are confident of reaching an agreement soon.
