In the last few years, the popularity of Formula 1 has grown worldwide. More so in the United States, and that is visible through the interest that has come in the last few years. We already have an all-American team on the grid in Haas. Another is slated to join as Mario Andretti joins hands with GM Cadillac. And of course, the big-money takeover six years ago by the American media giant, Liberty Media. Now the country will finally have local talent, Logan Sargeant, representing the nation on the big stage. He too recently acknowledged the growing popularity of the pinnacle of motorsport and believes it will soon overtake local championships NASCAR and IndyCar if it hasn’t already.

The last time an American raced in Formula 1 was Alexander Rossi in 2015. That is going to change in 2023 as the 22-year-old rookie will partner Alex Albon to race for Williams. The Grove-based team launched its livery for the upcoming season yesterday and after the event, Sargeant answered some questions from the media.

Speaking on F1’s popularity in the States, as per Racefans, Logan said, “It seems almost as big as NASCAR and IndyCar, if not bigger. It’s hard to say without seeing the numbers. But it seems like it’s pretty popular, and that’s a positive.”

Logan Sargeant acknowledges Netflix’s role in putting F1 in the spotlight in America

One of the biggest and best decisions Liberty Media has done during its reign is allowing Netflix to film during the seasons and create an engaging docuseries out of it. Such is the appeal of the show that F1 fans eagerly wait for its launch after each season of the championship concludes. Further, in the interview with the media, including RaceFans, Logan talked about how the streaming service helped the sport build a new fanbase in America.

He told, “To be honest, I don’t think back in the day anyone really cared, anyone really understood what it was. It’s funny, people text me now and be like ‘hey, I realize how big of a thing this could eventually be or how big F1 really was.”

“It’s a completely different world now in terms of America. Everyone knows what Formula 1 is now over there. It’s nice to see the transition and hopefully it keeps growing.”
