If you are a fan of the popular Netflix series ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’, you know how much of a fan Daniel Ricciardo is of NASCAR Legend Dale Earnhardt. Such is the level of fandom for the Australian that he couldn’t believe it when Mclaren team boss, Zak Brown, gifted him a miniature version of Dale Earnhardt Sr’s 1984 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

But that was almost a year ago. Then why are we talking about the Daniel Ricciardo-Dale Earnhardt connection today? It’s because Ricciardo recently posted a photo with teammate Lando Norris on Instagram sporting a jacket with Earnhardt’s name and racing number on it.
The jacket quickly caught fans’ attention and drove them into a frenzy.

NASCAR Cup Series star Daniel Suarez wrote, “Nice jacket”.
One fan wrote, “That jacket [raising hands emoji] #3”.
“A WIN FOR NASCAR NATION”.
“THE JACKET [fire emoji]”.
One Earnhardt fan went vintage, “Dale yeah”.
One fan simply wrote, “Loving the jacket [heart emoji]”.

Zak Brown did not simply stop at gifting Ricciardo the miniature Chevrolet. He promised Ricciardo something bigger for a milestone.

Zak Brown tried to make the most of the opportunity, counting on Ricciardo‘s for Earnhardt. Brown, made Ricciardo an offer he couldn’t refuse. Brown promised Daniel that he would let him take his personally owned 1984 Monte Carlo, that Earnhardt drove, himself for a spin if he got a podium finish with McLaren.
That was enough for an ecstatic Ricciardo to get fired up. Even though Ricciardo couldn’t really shine throughout the season, he managed to score a win. Brown kept his promise when Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix. He let Ricciardo drive the Monte Carlo at the US Grand Prix.

Since Daniel had won the race, instead of just getting a podium, he thought he deserved more than a drive in the Chevrolet. So he asked his team boss to be a part of his infamous celebration known as ‘shoey’. And as we know, Brown was happy to do it.
