There is a lot of comparison between race crafts across the globe. The global audience is of the opinion that Formula 1 is the ultimate racing competition. Whereas the American audience believes the stock car racing competition, NASCAR is the pinnacle of motorsport. Although there is no medium of comparison, there are times when the two sports are pitted against each other. In exactly one scenario, F1 champ Max Verstappen berated NASCAR to give his sport’s governing body a warning.

One of the major problems across all motorsport competitions is the impact of rain on racing. We recently witnessed 18-year-old Danilo Van ‘t Hoff lose his life thanks to a rain-filled Spa-Francorchamps. This isn’t the only time wet conditions on the track have cost a driver’s life in the history of motorsport. This is exactly why, after Van ‘t Hoff, the topic of rain and how to combat it has become prominent again. However, according to Verstappen, there’s only so much that can be done to combat the rain. In fact, as quoted by Motorsport, he hopes the sport doesn’t follow the timid approach of NASCAR.

“It’s very difficult to solve these things. You will always suffer from it, and you will always have spray,” said Verstappen. “Wheel covers on a Formula 1 car won’t make a big difference. The safety car also gave too much spray towards me. On the motorway you actually have the same problem. It’s always been like that. Just ask the older drivers in F1 too, they didn’t see anything either.”

However, when asked for his suggestion on the solution, Verstappen just warned off FIA from following NASCAR’s timid approach.

“Of course, certain accidents happen that have a bad outcome and then people naturally start to talk about it more. But if you look at it that way, you can’t really race in the rain anymore because there will always be problems with visibility. That would be a shame. Then it becomes like NASCAR, they don’t drive in the rain either,” he concluded.

The Red Bull man is extremely reserved when it comes to talking about his feelings. However, after the untimely demise of Van ‘t Hoff, Verstappen admitted how the incident gave him a gloomy reality check. In fact, unlike his recent comments, Verstappen lashed out at the FIA during a previous interview.

Verstappen might have calmer views on the topic of rain spray during the race at the moment, which is in truth a part of F1. However, a few weeks ago, soon after the tragedy, the Dutchman was livid as he spoke from opinion.

“The larger tires and the current large cars only provide more spray. It’s even worse than what it was like in 2016, for example, and it wasn’t good then. I remember back then in Brazil after a pit stop and I didn’t even see Fernando Alonso spin in front of me. That’s how bad the visibility was. On the straight, I drove flat out, but if someone had stopped there, I would have hit it fully,” said the Dutchman.
