Toto Wolff has been upfront and unapologetic when it comes to his team. And, after a disastrous season last year, he is ready to retaliate against Red Bull and Ferrari with massive claims only on the second day of pre-season testing! He is ready to present his team for the championship as he goes all in avenging Lewis Hamilton’s defeat at the hands of Max Verstappen.
Toto is a mastermind because you just don’t win eight constructors’ championships. On the second day of testing, Toto brought in good news for the Mercedes fans and the drivers’ fans. The boss has made it clear that while they might be looking weak compared to the other giants; they are less than no one and, much like the rest of the grid, know how to play the games. So, we can surely expect Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to compete at the front of the grid a lot more often.

While hinting at great performances by the rivals, Toto also hinted that the best of Mercedes is yet to come. As quoted by Motorsport, he said, “They are really fast. I’m not at all surprised by that. It’s very difficult to decide at this stage what the difference is, everyone drives with different fuel loads. Engine modes are also different. So it’s really hard to decide. We still hide our hands a bit.”

A strong and confident statement such as this has rung like music in the fans’ ears. And if this isn’t good news for Mercedes fans, we aren’t sure what will be, because Toto getting into the new war of words was all that was missing from the world.

Challenges for Mercedes and Toto Wolff
Mercedes’ W13 endured porpoising for the entirety of the last season, so much so that its drivers complained of severe backaches, which in itself was new to be heard. The issue itself single-handedly brought the team down, but this year, it appears to be resolved as Toto claims, “This has completely disappeared.”

But all’s not well for the Silver Arrows’ fans. Addressing the issues faced by the team during the testing, Toto said, “The balance of the vehicle was not good this morning. You could see the trail the vehicle left during driving, accelerating. Of course there is concern because it is not the driver who overused or forced the tires, but the vehicle itself, which does not provide him with enough handling at the back.”

Overall, things are looking good for Mercedes. The confidence displayed by Toto has been more crucial in reinstating the faith of the fans than the numbers presented by the drivers or their statements during the first day of testing.
