Fernando Alonso has become a cause for a lot of envy for many. The Spaniard, after his switch to Aston Martin, suddenly finds himself in the arguably second-fastest car on the grid. Not just that, Alonso is consistently securing podiums as well for his new team, the surprise of the season so far. However, the Silverstone-based outfit isn’t an overnight success, Alonso is just reaping the fruit of others’ hard labor. Those ‘others’ include the likes of Sebastian Vettel. This, according to his former boss Christian Horner, must be a very frustrating scenario for the German.
Vettel enjoyed most of his success with Red Bull to mark his start and his golden era in the sport. However, despite not driving a challenger worthy of his talents post the Red Bull era, the German remained one of the best on the grid. Apart from a race win and podium here and there, Vettel contributed more with his expertise and experience. This is exactly why Aston Martin was quick to offer him a set. Though the German retired before he could eat the fruit from the tree he helped sow at the Silverstone team. This is exactly what provoked Christian Horner to discuss this possible frustrating scenario for Seb.

Speaking to Spanish network DAZN, Horner stated, “Aston Martin would not be where it is this season without the contribution that Sebastian Vettel has made in previous years. It must be frustrating for Sebastian to see how Aston Martin is doing this year. He didn’t have a very easy stage there.” [Translated via Google]

Alonso added to this probable frustration by taking an indirect dig at Vettel. While few can know whether Vettel is a tad jealous after seeing Alonso & Aston take so many podiums this year, the German has been very jolly about their progress.
Ever so, that he also visited the paddock lately, visiting the Aston garage at the Monaco GP. We all know Vettel’s humble nature and this is exactly what he showcased while discussing his former team’s sudden rise to the top.
After handing the power seat to Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel gives his honest opinion on Aston Martin’s success
If Alonso can, Vettel would’ve been more than capable of securing podiums in the AMR23. The German is after all a four-time world champion. So if one were Vettel, they would beat themselves up for quitting a team like Aston Martin a year too early. Although not Vettel. When asked about the team’s success, he had nothing but well wishes for his former team.

Vettel said, “It was strange at first not to be there. But I get on well with it and follow the sport with great interest. I am very happy for my former team. You have also worked hard in recent years. It’s nice that they’re clinching a few trophies now.”
There might be fewer podiums and wins under his belt than he or we would’ve liked. However, no one can deny Vettel’s invaluable contribution to the sport and we are grateful to have witnessed his legend.

However, please don’t take this as a suggestion we wouldn’t want the German back in the sport showcasing his prowess on the track. Even though it doesn’t look like a possibility, for now, one can hope!
