Carlos Sainz, despite amassing the highest number of points in his F1 career in 2022, had a pretty forgettable season. The Spaniard struggled throughout the year trying to adapt to the car and also faced reliability issues. Moreover, some strategic calls from the team on tires and pit stops did not go as planned, either. Having endured it all, he has refused to show much positivity for the upcoming season and refused to divulge any information about the 2023 car.
Sainz delivered consistently good performances, finishing in the top 5 in most races. Those were the occasions when he did fell prey to DNFs a disappointing 6 times in the season. He either went down to reliability issues, or just plain bad luck, being taken out by other drivers. Despite regular finishes on the podium, he could finish as the winner only at Silverstone. The win gave him a massive confidence boost. However, the rest of the season brought that all down.
He was recently asked if he had been in touch with the new team principal Frederic Vasseur. Speaking with Sky Italia, Carlos said, “Of course I have spoken with Fred.”

Carlos Sainz reveals his plans to excel in 2023
Sainz adapted pretty well to the environment and the car at Ferrari on his arrival in 2021. He even beat their golden boy Charles Leclerc on points, stamping his authority immediately. However, reliability issues in 2022 once again shift the balance in Leclerc’s favor as the Monegasque finished runner-up.

Talking about his plans for the 2023 season, as per Autosport, Carlos said, “My goal is to be consistent.”
“To win races, I already know what it is, but if you want to fight for the world championship, you have to be consistent. If you’re at the front, the worst result is fifth or sixth, but with six or seven retirements that we’ve had, a series of points will go away that make you miss the world championship – although it’s also true that [Max] Verstappen and Red Bull have been stronger,” he added.
