Lewis Hamilton had an amazing drive at the British Grand Prix. After qualifying fifth, he landed himself on the podium a third time this season, despite not many expecting the same from the Brackley team. However, team Mercedes improved, and they might have successfully unlocked the pace in their W13 that even beat a Ferrari in the end.

In fact, Hamilton looked so promising that many thought he might even win the race. Damon Hill, Natalie Pinkham, and Tom Clarkson were also admittedly a part of this group until the end. The fastest man on the track, the seven-time world champion, at one point overtook a Red Bull and a Ferrari sensationally to reach P2. However, RB-18’s race pace was ultimately slightly better than the W13.
Hill, a former world champion, revealed his thoughts during the race. He admitted, “I think later in the race when Lewis was leading, I’m sure he was thinking to himself ‘I’m gonna give these people something to remember’. And he did but…We just thought this is unbelievable, this is gonna be the most unbelievable sporting victory ever,”

“Because of not being even on the radar all season to lead a Grand Prix. There he was leading, it was incredible, and he looked good..he, you know, the pace was good…”. Clearly, Hill must’ve been disappointed because Hamilton ultimately did not win.
However, many fans would agree with Hill’s comments. Despite not being in the fastest car, Hamilton was adamant to secure a podium finish on his home turf for his home crowd. He drove unafraid of anything, fighting many wheel-to-wheel battles, unbothered by any possible penalties. Or, even worse, being crashed out.

But where did the Briton stand before all these promising showings? The driver’s shocking dull finishes are a direct juxtaposition to his form in the last two races. This is the same Hamilton who was knocked out of Q1 in Saudi Arabia this year. Further, just a while ago, he was being outperformed by his new teammate.
His shockingly low performances caused many to doubt his abilities, further suggesting that he retire. However, from being lapped by a former nemesis, failing to overtake an AlphaTauri to making it to the podium, Hamilton seems to be regaining his rhythm.
