Rain always adds flavor to every race weekend and the Belgian GP is already proving that. Thanks to the new Sprint weekend format, we already got the first taste of action with the qualifying on Friday. The final grid for the race might not be full of surprises keeping aside Max Verstappen’s 5-place grid penalty. However, the first session on a wet Spa-Francorchamps did not disappoint. Among the many jump scares, the one that caught everyone’s attention was the one that one which almost caught Max Verstappen out at the end of Q2. Soon after that, his X-rated rant also caught some attention.
The Dutchman set the fastest time with a considerable gap. However, Verstappen qualified last in Q2 which was an extremely frustrating scenario for him. If you know Verstappen, you know he does not like to bottle his feelings and not mince his words while expressing them. This is exactly how we would like to sum up the exchange between Verstappen and his partner in crime Gianpiero Lambiase (GP). However, the world champion downplayed it with just a laugh and a simple excuse as quoted by Motorsport-total.
“That happens sometimes. Most of it gets censored. I think we can both get pretty explicit or emotional. But we always sort it out afterwards, it’s all good. I’ll discuss it with him,” he emphasizes.

All is well that ends well, right? For most, looking from the outside, this could’ve been an uncomfortable exchange. However, this is just a usual day in the office, and even Helmut Marko can attest to that fact.

Every driver’s No.1 friend during a race weekend is his track-side engineer. We don’t generally realize the continuous communication between a driver and his engineer. This is exactly why these two entities always need to be on the same page and trust each other completely. So when instances like Verstappen and GP’s commutation come to light, a lot of eyebrows are raised. However, according to Marko, this is just a normal day in the office.
“The two are, I’ve said that before, like an old married couple. It’s a bang every day,” grins Helmut Marko. “This is Max. He always wants the best. That’s why he also expresses his dissatisfaction when he’s under pressure or not performing as well as he could.”
