Mick Schumacher has the distinct privilege of being the most blessed and cursed driver at the same time. While the young German is surely a supremely talented driver and his name packs enough punch to get him through any door, on the flip side, it’s his ‘Schumacher’ name that made his life miserable as he tried to settle himself in the cruel and cutthroat world of F1. At Haas, the 24-year-old had the entire weight of the world on his shoulders as he was expected to re-hash the glory days of his father from the get-go.

The pressure got the better of him, and a few expensive wrecks later, he found himself out of the sport, and without a racing seat to his name. That being said, it’s the Schumacher connection that has given him a second chance to kickstart his F1 career at Mercedes.

After displaying his temper tantrums on the hit Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’, Haas’ boss, Guenther Steiner, gave the real deal to Mick Schumacher as he was ousted by the Italian. In the aftermath, Steiner’s comments about the German driver didn’t really mend any burned bridges. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t expect Schumacher back on the grid soon.

With the Schumacher name attached firmly alongside Mercedes’, thanks to Michael Schumacher’s somewhat triumphant return with the Silver Arrows in 2010, Steiner believes his son, who currently serves as Lewis Hamilton & Co.’s reserve driver, is “in the best position of all people,” without an F1 seat to make a comeback per Motorsport-Total.com.

His reasoning? “Obviously, Mercedes has many customer teams,” stated Steiner [translated via Google Translate].

The 2023 Spanish Grand Prix was the first big milestone in Mercedes’ resurgence. The team secured a much-needed double podium finish to buoy their march toward the front of the field. While Hamilton did the hard work on track to finish P2, his eyes were only looking out for Schumacher to thank.

After the race, Hamilton was quoted as saying, “Friday was a real struggle with the balance, it was way out of the window. It was very hard to drive, very unpredictable. And then we did some great work overnight. We’ve got a great team, with Mick back in the simulator on Friday night, and he did some great work, which helped us get on the right track on Saturday.”
