After a few days of silence, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff finally addressed the media for the first time after the controversial end to the F1 season. Wolff expressed his disappointment as well as many of his thoughts; how Abu Dhabi has left him and Lewis Hamilton ‘disillusioned.’

Ever since Hamilton missed out on his record-breaking eighth world championship in the cruelest fashion, many of his fans and friends have come out in his support.

And now, one of Mercedes and Hamilton’s key sponsors, Monster Energy Drink, has come out with a statement of support for one of their biggest partners.

Their statement reads, “Lewis Hamilton has always competed and acted with class on and off the track, we will always be proud to be in his corner and support the best drivers of our time.”

“We’re proud to have them wear the Monster Energy logo.”

That shows you just how big a name Lewis Hamilton is on the global market spectrum. Even his sponsors are coming out in his support. And that’s a testament to the legacy he has built and to the mountain of achievements he has with his name on them.

A legacy that may never be replicated or crossed. But one which could come to an abrupt end.

This is because, in the same press conference, Toto Wolff described their disillusionment. He also suggested that Hamilton’s F1 career might’ve ended at the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi.

What will Mercedes do if Lewis Hamilton does retire indeed?

Toto Wolff had said“I would very much hope that Lewis continues racing, because he’s the greatest driver of all times.”

He couldn’t offer a definitive statement regarding what Hamilton’s future looks like. But this makes us wonder, what would the future of Mercedes look like if Hamilton didn’t return?

After all, they’ve already said goodbye to Valtteri Bottas. So losing their next most experienced driver could be a big problem.

But for Hamilton’s replacement, Mercedes could turn to Nico Hulkenberg in short term, or even Esteban Ocon of Alpine. And a far stretch would be Lando Norris.

Yet as of now, nothing is certain.

It’s up to Lewis Hamilton, not his sponsors, not his team principal, but the knight himself to come out and offer information regarding his future in Formula 1.
