Monaco GP Victory Marks Mighty Mexican F1 Milestones for Sergio Perez

The Monaco GP did not fail to disappoint as a drama-filled day race came to an end in spectacular fashion. Sergio Perez endured a stunning victory in what looked like a wet weather race. However, after the initial outburst of rain, the track dried out and the battle between the top 2 teams intensified.

Red Bull’s strategy clearly was better than Ferrari’s today. On a day where the Milton-Keynes outfit needed to get it right as Ferrari occupied the front row, they fully capitalized on the Prancing Horse’s errors.

During lap 16, Red Bull called in Perez to change to intermediate tires. After the track dried up, they once again nailed their double-stack pit stops to medium tires. As a result, Perez came out on top of Carlos Sainz and maintained his position.

On his way to his third victory in F1 and maiden Monaco GP win, the Mexican has broken multiple records. He is now the most successful Mexican driver in F1 history as he beat Pedro Rodriguez to it. And he also became the first Mexican, as well as the first North American driver since 1981, to win a race in this historic venue.

As the Mexican national anthem was played on the podium, it was clear what the win meant to Checo. The Red Bull driver was emotional, and we are sure the celebrations will continue throughout the evening.

Sergio Perez reveals his satisfaction after the victory

The hard-earned victory in Monaco means that Perez is right back in the frame for the championship. He is only 15 points behind leader Max Verstappen and 6 behind Leclerc. And he revealed his joy of winning the Monaco GP.

He said, “It is a dream come true. As a driver, you dream of winning here. After your home race, there is no other more special weekend to win so to do it and the way we did it.

“We made it a bit harder for ourselves at the end today and we had to not make any mistakes and keep it home and keeping Carlos behind wasn’t easy. It is a massive day for myself and for my country. I am just very, very happy.”
