At 41 years of age, Fernando Alonso is breaking barriers in Formula 1. This isn’t a sport where the hardest foot on the accelerator wins. The sport requires a broader approach to a race weekend and contingency plans for all possible scenarios. This is exactly the area where Alonso showcased his experience during the race in Australia.
The Spaniard was one step ahead of his fellow drivers when all hell broke loose in Australia after the third restart. Right after getting clipped by Carlos Sainz and fighting back for his third position, Alonso communicated a message to his team. The message predicted the events after a possible restart to the T and asked the team to check rule 36, sub-section B which would reinstate his position.
This early prediction proved Alonso knew his 101st podium was coming. In fact, it was Alonso’s commendable quick thinking that people from Australia’s Network 10 TV team on the F1 Nation podcast foresaw Alonso making his $270 million in an alternate career.

One of the members of the TV team admired Alonso’s quick thinking. He said, “Fernando Alonso, seconds after he was clipped by Sainz, I think it was, he was already talking about the Silverstone precedent of restarting a race the lap before. The fact that he is able to think that whilst still driving the car, it’s incredible how he uses his brain in the car.”
One of the other presenters from the TV team said, “We were making joking how he should be a lawyer. He probably is a lawyer. I’d get him to defend me.”

Alonso definitely has a few characteristics of a lawyer. He is quick-witted and often uses a filter while speaking his mind. However, he also has a negative lawyer characteristics.

The Spaniard often picks up a fight with his oldest and longest-serving rival on the grid, Lewis Hamilton. The two have been sharing snide comments toward each other since 2022. Alonso recently brutally mocked Hamilton for his comments about the RB19 as well. However, changing colors like a chameleon, the Spaniard spoke highly of the Brit right after the Australian GP.

“Matching the pace of Mercedes was not easy (…) I tried to force a mistake from Lewis to get close but he drove fantastically well, as the champion he is, and no mistakes. I only remember one lock up in Turn 13, in 58 laps,” said Alonso.

Say what you will. Every lawyer needs a little hypocrisy and a lot of them go back on their words as well. So perhaps the Spaniard would make a good lawyer. Maybe after his second retirement from the sport?
