Back in the day, Nelson Piquet was an idol for Brazilians as he rose to the very top of the Formula 1 hierarchy with three exquisite championships. The ex-Brabham and Williams man rivaled the likes of countryman Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Nigel Mansell for glory. But talent can get you only so far. It is common knowledge in the F1 community that even though Piquet was a gifted driver; he was and still is a contentious character. His temperament and controversial sometimes bordering on hateful and insulting comments have gotten him in trouble on more than one occasion. But when he messed with Lewis Hamilton, he should’ve known there would be trouble.
The 70-year-old former Brazilian racing ace has made a series of comments against many prominent people in the past. But this one incident where he crossed the line with 7x champion Lewis Hamilton may have finally put him in a dire legal mess. This becomes even more damning for the man as Hamilton is now, officially, a Brazilian asset.
O Globo reporter, Ancelmo Gois was quoted as saying, “The Public Ministry of the Federal District presented an opinion to the Justice, yesterday, where it requests the condemnation of the ex-pilot Nelson Piquet for the prejudiced comment about the also pilot Lewis Hamilton, made during an interview.” [translated via Google Translate]
