Mick Schumacher Remains Confident About Haas’ Prospects Despite Unfortunate Finish in Bahrain GP

The Bahrain Grand Prix will forever go down in history as one of the most dramatic races to kick off a season. Charles Leclerc led his Ferrari team to a one-two on a perfect day at Sakhir, but Red Bull saw both their drivers fail to even finish. Surprisingly, Haas upped the ante this season with Magnussen finishing P5 and Mick Schumacher ending up P11.

After witnessing an impressive debut by his teammate Kevin Magnussen, Mick Schumacher missed out on his first points finish as he crossed the chequered flag in P11 in the Bahrain GP. The German was visibly disappointed but remained confident on the potential of the car. He revealed his thoughts post-race on his best display in an F1 car yet.

Mick Schumacher is Positive about the Prospects of the Car

Despite finishing P11, Mick Schumacher is confident about the prospects of the car. He took Magnussen’s P5 finish as an example and believed that they can finish in points position regularly. The 22-year-old explained, “To see Kevin in P5 means that we have the car and that I can do it. It also means we’re close to the podium when there’s a crazy weekend, which is mostly the case in Formula 1, so we should be able to do that.”

The primary reason for his unimpressive race result was his early race clash with Esteban Ocon. After Ocon had turned into Schumacher only a few meters after the start, the young German recovered well from this setback and showed an impressive performance. Schumacher conveyed that the crash with Ocon caused some damage to the car. He also revealed that the car did not run to its potential after the incident. He added, “I don’t know how much damage the touch caused to the car. It didn’t feel great to drive afterwards. I think that was also reflected in our pace.”

Esteban Ocon accepted his mistake as he received a five-second penalty. Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher’s chances of overtaking were once again jeopardized by the inopportune timing of a safety car. Initially in p10, he fell down three places by not pitting under the safety car and, as a result, getting overtaken by drivers with fresher tires. However, Red Bull’s double retirement meant that the German finished P11.

Haas experienced an excellent start to the season in the Bahrain GP. Although Mick Schumacher was disappointed by his race result, all and all, he seems content with the car. Meanwhile, Guenther Steiner and Co were more than satisfied with the result and the potential of the car. Can they carry this momentum in the coming weeks? Only time will tell.
