Haas has finally got over their driver struggles. They have chosen their former driver Kevin Magnussen, who made the switch back from Indy cars. He will partner 2020 F2 champion Mick Schumacher who enters his second season in F1. The Danish driver took part in the Bahrain pre-season testing with the American team. He will hope to have a smooth transition back into F1 with his former team.

Mick Schumacher on K-Mag

Mick Schumacher was paired with Nikita Mazepin in their rookie season in F1 last year. And the German convincingly outperformed Mazepin. However, the current conflict in Europe has led Haas to sack the Russian driver. After talks about their new driver, they have settled on their ex-driver Kevin Magnussen.

Mick, when asked about his opinion on his new teammate he said, “Kevin’s arrival will definitely be beneficial for me and the team,”. Mick will face a driver of a different caliber in Magnussen. The F1 veteran is rapid on his day and brings lots of experience.

He added, “I think I can benefit from his experience …. he is a good benchmark,”. Mick will not have an easy win over K-Mag and will face stiff competition throughout the season.

Schumacher’s rookie year

The German came in as an exciting prospect after winning F2 in his second season of competing in the series. Unfortunately, his F1 rookie year coincided with Haas being so far off the pace that even finishing in the points was a huge feat.

However, he had some pretty good performances, managing to make it to Q2 at the Turkish GP and finishing 12th in Hungarian GP being the notable two. This also speaks about the machinery he was dealing with in 2021.

The better benchmark would be to compare him to his teammate and fellow rookie Nikita Mazepin, whom he comfortably outperformed. This year he has a chance in his second season to fight with a much more competitive-looking car. How do you think Mick Schumacher will do in his second season in F1?
