We all are aware of Mick Schumacher’s move to Mercedes now. The German will be on the Mercedes driver’s roster from 2023 onwards in a reserve capacity. Many within the Formula 1 community have congratulated Mick. However, the latest one would be a little more special than the others. Primarily because of the history this person shares with his father, Michael Schumacher.
The entity in question is Jean Todt. The former president of the FIA had a lot more to do with Formula 1 than he did after becoming the president of the governing body. Todt was the general manager of Scuderia Ferrari from 1994 to 2007. During his time at Ferrari, the Frenchman recruited one Michael Schumacher to drive for the Italian team.

Thanks to Todt’s recruitment of Michael and his team development, Ferrari won its first driver’s championship in 2000. The win ended more than a decade-long drought and started a new era. An era where Michael Schumacher won five consecutive championships with Ferrari. Safe to say, the Todt and the Schumacher names share a lot of history.
This is exactly why when Jean Todt tweeted wishing Mick, it would’ve meant a great deal to him. The tweet read, “Happy for Mick @SchumacherMick for this great opportunity to join the @MercedesAMGF1 team. Wishing him the best! #KeepFighting”
Nothing tells one you’re in everyone’s thoughts, like a positive message from your father’s former team boss. Despite the snub from Haas, the young German has a lot of support from the F1 fraternity. Apart from the support, there is also the burning desire in Mick himself.

“PTW (prove them wrong), it’s what I’ve been saying [for the] most part of this year,” he said. “I just felt like saying that because I think I want to prove everybody wrong who doesn’t believe in me, because I know what I can do. I’ve proven that in the junior categories, and I don’t see a reason why I can’t do that.”
