The much anticipated F1 practice debut of Mick Schumacher, has taken a further step forward. After enduring testing sessions in the 2018 Ferrari car at Fiorano, the young driver has flown down to Switzerland.

Alfa Romeo’s factory and headquarters are in Hinwil, Switzerland. And naturally, that is where all mechanics and data analysts assist the current and future drivers.

The racing team yesterday shared a post on their Twitter handle, with Mick Schumacher successfully getting a seat fitting done before next Friday’s practice session.

Mick Schumacher edging closer to ‘dream debut’ in front of home crowd

It only seems like a matter of time before Mick is driving the Alfa Romeo C39 at Nurburgring. The build-up to seeing the son of legendary driver Michael Schumacher, is immense.

Mick has been vocal of the support and opportunities that he has received. From his current team, Prema Powerteam to the Ferrari Drivers Academy. And now of course, Alfa Romeo Racing.

Fellow academy graduate Callum Ilott will also race on the same track as Mick. He will drive the Haas VF-20. There is hence, widespread excitement to see these young drivers in action.

Schumacher’s future lies in Formula 1 next season

The talk of Mick’s step up to the top division has been ongoing for some time now. Earlier in September, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto had acknowledged that he was ready to drive in F1.

His uncle, Ralf Schumacher, among many other pundits have discussed his promotion. And at a time where teams like Haas and Alfa Romeo are scouting fresh drivers, it makes sense.

Alfa Romeo, previously known as Sauber F1, was the same team that gave Charles Leclerc his chance. Although there is still a long way to go, one can envision Mick’s development on similar lines.

Mick Schumacher is the current F2 Championship leader with 191 points. After last week’s race win in Sochi, the young driver was of course, appreciated for his technical driving skills.

But what stood out was his attitude towards recognizing the entire team’s efforts for his victory. He made it a point to appreciate them and not just focus on himself.

He looks like the complete package, ready to take the next step. And he will hope his career will be as successful as his seat fitting with Alfa Romeo.
