Does Lewis Hamilton's tribute to Schumacher show he's the true heir to the F1 legend's legacy?

Spa-Francorchamps is a special race track for the Schumacher family. The legendary Michael Schumacher has won six times in this circuit. His first F1 victory was here in Belgium in 1992; so it’s not difficult to understand why Spa is precious. The track adds to Formula 1’s glorious history, and in return, the Red Baron’s iconic six wins uplifts the illustrious sport to great heights. On Sunday, Corinna Schumacher‘s appearance in the paddock marked yet another delightful sight, given Spa-Francorchamps has witnessed Schumi’s uprising as one of the greatest racers ever.

Returning to her husband’s ‘living room’, Corinna appeared to be breathing in the Belgian GP air, reminiscent of Schumacher’s golden era. She was in a great mood, spotted enjoying herself at the race weekend. Accompanied by a friend, she headed towards the Mercedes garage as a guest of Mercedes at Spa. Moreover, her presence could have a bigger meaning in the present F1 scenes. With Mick Schumacher’s active involvement in the transfer market, Michael Schumacher’s wife could play an influential role in her son’s career.

While it is unsure if Schumacher Jr. will return to F1 next season, given his test drives with Alpine and McLaren in recent times, prospects are looking good. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton took a nostalgia trip down the track. Remembering his core memories of F1, the only other 7x champ, paid a simple yet heartfelt tribute to Michael Schumacher. After years of his retirement, the Red Baron lives on in the hearts and minds of all F1 fans for his boundless contribution to the sport.

What is common between Lewis Hamilton and Michael, besides their seven titles? Their love and respect for the sport. When Hamilton had debuted in F1, he was considered the heir to Schumacher’s legacy. Surprisingly, he lived up to the expectations and beyond. Moreover, the only driver to ever come closer and break almost all the records of the Regenkonig (Rain King) is Lewis Hamilton.

During the driver’s parade at the Belgian GP, the Mercedes No.1 said: “How lucky are we here? Remember growing up watching Mika [Hakkinen] and Schumacher down here? I don’t know, I just had a really good nostalgic kinda feeling. It’s so great to be here.” Both Hakkinen and Schumacher were the greatest rivals in their era. However, when Hamilton debuted and began outperforming Schumacher, another rival was added to the German’s tally. But that did come in the way of their mutual respect, and this is the beauty of F1 – the two legends portrayed beautifully.
