“Never give up,” said Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh when she created history by winning an Oscar not just for herself but for almost 5 billion Asians. It took 95 years for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to make it happen. However, as she changed history with her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, another pulled off a similar feat on the racing circuit. Ex-Ferrari Boss and a close aide of Michael Schumacher feels the German changed history the same way as Yeoh. But why should we believe him?

Because both of the aforementioned personalities are closely linked to him. One he is married to and the other he walked with when the history of Formula 1 was being rewritten. In 2000, Michael Schumacher fended off Mika Hakkinen and took his 3rd title in Suzuka. It was the first for Ferrari since 1979. It onset one of the greatest reigns in history and the then-team principal Jean Todt became a first-hand witness to it. In fact, he was the first one to greet Schumacher when the latter stepped out of his car. And being a witness of history at both ends, he compares his wife’s achievement with that of his closest friends.

Speaking to Corriere Dela Sera, ex-FIA boss, Todt appreciated his wife and even went on to call her a champion of the family. Recalling the night at the Oscars, he said, “It was like winning a World Cup. Arriving in Los Angeles, we thought we had a chance, but you don’t know until you open the envelope. When they mentioned the name, I was delighted. I know the efforts of Michelle, the first Asian actress then..”

Further letting us in on the experience, he said, “I whispered in her ear: ‘I feel the same feeling as when I brought Michael in 2000 to Suzuka’. She was writing history. So I say we have a new world champion in the family.”

After an ugly ousting by Haas, Mick Schumacher found a second home in the same place his father made a comeback to the grid; Mercedes. And taking Mick as his own, he has on multiple occasions shown confidence in the German. Additionally, he has even affirmed Mick’s F1 return plans.

Toto, as quoted by Planet F1, said, “This time Mick would drive. If one of our drivers gets Covid or gets injured, Mick will be in the Mercedes. Period, end of discussion. We’re trying to get an old car ready for him as soon as possible,” he concluded with eagerness to make things happen for the 24-year-old.
