Michael Jordan began featuring in a crossover with the apex of motor sporting when Nike told Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen to ‘just not do it’. The story featured a total contrast to how the two leaders of their respective sports ended on the opposite side of the spectrum with the brand. However, the Jordan connection with Formula 1 doesn’t end there, as another revelation has linked MJ with the team that made the biggest leap over the winter break. Yes, we are talking about Aston Martin.

But what is the connection you ask? Ex-manager of Michael Jordan, Jefferson Slack. The 59-year-old is responsible for bringing in the green bills to the Silverstone-based outfit. Currently responsible for marketing and commercial activities, Slack has over 30 decades long experience in the sports industry. He joined Stroll in 2020. The outfit which was still Racing Point back then rebranded itself as Aston Martin, beginning in 2021.

The chief architect behind bringing in the money and initiating Aston Martin’s 2023 success is the managing director Slack. And the funny bit is that he knew nothing about motorsports as he primarily had a background in basketball and soccer.

About meeting Stroll, he said, “We were introduced through a mutual friend. Lawrence really is a visionary. I know people think he has a certain public persona, but he’s one extremely generous, warm-hearted guy.”

“He’s a strong-willed guy. He understood that the Aston Martin brand is one of the world’s premium brands. And with that brand there was a lot more commercial marketing potential with the team than as Racing Point.”

Lawrence Stroll’s miracle man Fernando Alonso picks his fiercest rival

You’d think it would be Lewis Hamilton. But the answer is not that simple. And Fernando, who dethroned the then 7x champion, has snubbed his ex-McLaren teammate, Hamilton, to pick Michael Schumacher as the fiercest rival in his 22-year-long career. As quoted by the Sun, when Alonso was asked to choose his greatest rival, he told Bang & Olufsen, “It is difficult to choose one because they were all great rivals and very talented drivers as well.”

But he eventually did end up picking another 7x champion over Hamilton, “When I came to this sport, Michael Schumacher was dominating the races and everything, probably that fight with him would still be the one I would choose.”
