There are many high-performance cars in the world, but only a few of them can really wow motorsports fans. And the recently announced AMG One is one of those few cars, as it belongs to an entirely new vehicle class where F1 technology meets a road car. Being showcased in 2017 for the first time, the car is finally here!

According to the Project Lead, even Lewis Hamilton has played a hand in the development of this project.
Lewis Hamilton adds the final polish to AMG-One Project
Editor for Top Gear, Jack Rix, was present as Mercedes pulled the wraps off its AMG-One car. And for a car using an F1 engine, the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, was consulted for this project.
Jack asked the leader about Lewis Hamilton and his connection with the project. He said, “So the whole development phase was created like this so the AMG team and all the HPP team, so our Formula 1 colleagues, did all these base set-ups and all these things.”
“And Lewis was the kind of guy who told us, ‘Okay here a bit more or there a bit more’, and this was how the collaboration works, yeah”.

After winning the 2020 Drivers’ title, Hamilton was eager to get back to developing the AMG-One. “I can still hardly believe that there will soon be a hypercar with a Formula One engine,” Hamilton said. “We won the world championship with this engine in 2015, and I was involved in its development for a long time.”
Interestingly enough, Lewis has expressed the desire of having his own special edition AMG-One. He said in 2019 that he would like his car to have more power and noise with personalized options.
How Mercedes-Benz agreed to AMG-One Project
For all the power the AMG-One puts out; it has given an equal amount of headache to Mercedes in developing the car. Trying to convert an F1 engine into a road engine has been a task for the German manufacturer.

“The team at AMG and the High Performance Powertrain Formula 1 arm came to us about four years ago and said ‘we’ve got a great idea, let’s put a Formula 1 engine into a road car,” said Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz. “I will have to go back to check the meeting minutes, but I’m sure we were drunk when we said yes.”
