The news is hardly any shock after Daniel Ricciardo joined Red Bull as their reserve driver. Additionally, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has also been very vocal about his admiration for the son of the 7-time champion, Michael Schumacher.

Mercedes announced Mick’s signing on Twitter and captioned the tweet, Willkommen, Mick. Say hello to our 2023 Reserve Driver, @SchumacherMick.”

The former Haas driver spent a difficult two years with the American constructors. Moreover, the German driver’s relationship with team principal Guenther Steiner arguably turned cold. Schumacher was replaced by compatriot Nico Hulkenberg for the 2023 season.

Schumacher, who scored 12 points this past season, will replace the AlphaTauri-bound Dutchman Nyck de Vries at Mercedes. The Dutchman signed for the Italian team after an impressive outing in Monza, which saw him finish P9 in his first-ever F1 race.
