A decade-long love story got a lifeline in 2023 as Lewis Hamilton signed his contract extension with Mercedes until the end of 2025. A relationship that enjoyed a lot of success together with its fair share of difficulties, was finally extended after much delay and deliberation. However, despite multiple claims of unwavering loyalty toward Mercedes, Red Bull boss Christian Horner has suggested a flirty affair with a red-hot mistress.
The red mistress in question is not Red Bull, although that was also the case. It’s the red of Ferrari that Horner is talking about here. That’s right, despite Hamilton denying any contact with Ferrari and rejecting their offers, Horner has exposed the Brit’s hypocrisy.

The oldest and most successful team on the grid, Ferrari has its lure no matter who you are. The Brit also felt that lure when Ferrari approached him with a $49 million offer. However, after public denial of any contact and contract rejection, Christian Horner has exposed the truth in his recent conversation with the Daily Mail.
“He met John Elkann (Ferrari chairman), too. I think there were serious talks,“ revealed Horner. “It was around Monaco (in May). There were definitely conversations, perhaps with (Frederic) Vasseur, too. But certainly with Elkann.” This statement completely ridicules Hamilton’s multiple claims of delaying his contract extension because of some finer kinks in the contract and not because he was in contact with other teams.
That’s not all, Horner also revealed how Hamilton even approached Red Bull for a seat which would’ve made the Austrian team the most powerful on the grid.

Apart from the Ferrari revelation, Horner also exposed Hamilton’s desire to join the Austrian team. The hunger within Hamilton to win his 8th championship title is still burning, and he felt he could’ve achieved that goal with Red Bull. However, pairing the two rivals Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton together would’ve upset the harmony within the team and this is exactly why Horner rejected the advances.
Horner revealed, “We have had several conversations over the years about Lewis joining. They have reached out a few times. Most recently, earlier in the year, there was an inquiry about whether there would be any interest.” However, the boss was aware Hamilton’s arrival in the team would’ve upset the harmony. “But I can’t see Max and Lewis working out together. The dynamic wouldn’t be right. We are 100 percent happy with what we have,” he concluded.

Keeping in mind the recent history, we cannot even fathom the two driving together for the same team. Although, it would’ve been incredible to see Verstappen and Hamilton go head to head in equal machinery.
