When Formula 1 returned to Australia this season, there were speculations that Mercedes had a “secret project” behind the scenes. After a disappointing 2022 season, it was clear Lewis Hamilton & Co. had to make drastic changes for this season. But the W14 this year didn’t seem all that different from the W13. Sky Sports pundit Ted Kravitz gave his thoughts on what might’ve been going on.
He said, “Maybe there was a secret project going on in Brackley over the winter. They said, ‘We will continue with the original design but make a copy of the Red Bull via an additional project and see where we end up.’” Although there hasn’t been any update on this after the Australian GP, Hamilton was recently asked to spill some secrets. Could it be about this?

The seven-time champion isn’t one of those A-listers who leaves his fans high and dry. Even though he isn’t too active on social media, when he comes online, he makes it a point to give everyone a proper update. This time, though, he did things a little differently. Instead of just posting pictures of himself or videos of Roscoe, he decided to interact with his fans. After a break from social media, Hamilton announced his return by tweeting, “Enjoyed the weekend off, how’s everyone?”

Twitter user @fiagirly asked, “can we know more about that secret project you’re working on? 🤨🤨🤨” Whether they were referring to Mercedes’ “secret project” or one of Hamilton’s many ventures he doesn’t reveal much about is difficult to say. Either way, Hamilton got the point and gave his answer.
Much to their (and everyone else’s) dismay, the Brit wasn’t quite ready to give away anything. He replied, “Not yet. You’ll get a taste of it soon …” Even though he didn’t give away anything, it’s clear whatever he or Mercedes is working on is significant. And as Hamilton said, we’re going to get a taste of it soon. While he kept this secret under wraps, another one of his secret projects took flight this year.

Lewis Hamilton is set to make his Hollywood debut
The 1986 film Top Gun inspired many people, and Hamilton was one of them. So when his friend Tom Cruise announced a sequel, Hamilton expressed how much he wanted to be a part of it. Cruise even offered him a role. Evidently, that didn’t work out because driving F1 cars is his main priority. That aside, the Brit is set to make his official Hollywood debut (and no, it’s not through Drive To Survive) as part of a joint venture with Brad Pitt.

News about this joint venture broke in late 2021. During the 2022 US GP, Pitt confirmed the venture, announcing that Hamilton would be the producer of an F1-inspired movie. Right before it commenced filming at the 2023 British GP, Pitt & Co. announced the name of the film—Apex. With filming set to continue throughout the season, the movie is expected to hit theatres in 2024 or early 2025.
