“A woman who behaves as if she is very special or important”, is how the Cambridge dictionary describes a “Diva”. In 2017, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff labeled their ‘difficult-to-drive’ W08 a “Diva”. 4 years later, Lewis Hamilton continued the same analogy, labeling his championship-losing 2021 W12 a “Monster of a Diva”. Unfortunately for him, but amusing for others, he has now been labeled the same.
The 7-time champion had set out to drive extraordinarily and clinch the record-breaking 8th world championship in 2021. But the little diva that his car turned out to be cost him the title (if we leave the controversial part aside). But today, 2 years after that name-calling, in the latest episode of the TG1F podcast with Kate and Nicole, Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner has called Hamilton the biggest diva!

Kate asked: “Who would you say is the biggest diva in the paddock?” A nice question, we would say, to extract something gossipy stuff from the Haas Boss, the most straightforward person on the grid. “That’s very personal, no?” Steiner replied comically before blurting out his answer. “Biggest diva – I think Lewis.” This drew an approving chuckle from both the hosts, followed by a justifiable statement: “I think he deserves to be a Diva too. He’s earned it at this point.”

Steiner had that answer locked and ready to go. The “personal” part of his response only added to the hilariousness of his actual answer. However, for Hamilton, his secrets have been exposed, but surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that he’s been called a Diva.

Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher – the two legends of Formula 1 and also the contenders of ‘Who’s the GOAT’? In 2020, in an episode of the NOS Formula podcast, Vans Amerfoorst and Jan Lammers discussed the stark differences in the personalities of both. While the German racer still stuck to his root and preferred to spend time with his old friends in the off-time, Hamilton was labeled a “Diva” for having only famous connections.
“But Lewis also suffers a bit from star lyrics, let’s call it that,” said Lammers, agreeing with Van Amersfoort. “I don’t always like that either. Schumacher had those too, but they are two completely different people. Michael played football with his old football club and Lewis’ network consists almost exclusively of very famous people. It’s a bit of a diva“.
