The uncertainties around Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s performance were the hottest discussions in the paddock for the Singapore GP before Helmut Marko made the controversial comments about Sergio Perez. As Checo refused to take any offense, Max Verstappen refused to educate the Red Bull taskmaster while Lewis Hamilton lashed out at him. What did Verstappen say?
Helmut Marko recently made comments about Sergio Perez’s ethnicity as he advised that the Mexican isn’t as focused as Verstappen or Sebastian Vettel because he originates from the South American continent. Lewis Hamilton has always opposed any sort of racism and made scathing comments during the press day for the Singapore GP.

While Helmut Marko making those comments isn’t justifiable in any way, the least he could do after making such comments was to come up and make an apology. That’s exactly what he did as he explained how he shouldn’t have characterized Checo’s performance to his heritage or ethnicity. Sergio Perez also accepted his apology explaining how he understands that Marko didn’t mean what he said.
According to Sky Sports, Helmut Marko said, “I would like to apologize for my offensive remark and want to make it absolutely clear that I do not believe that we can generalize about the people from any country, any race, any ethnicity. I was trying to make a point that Checo has fluctuated in his performance this year, but it was wrong to attribute this to his cultural heritage”
