Liberty Media brought F1 for $4.4 billion back in 2017. Ever since, the sport has only grown exponentially as the current valuation is around the $20 billion mark. However, the reputation that the sport has built can plummet by just one mistake. And that mistake could’ve very well been Helmut Marko’s derogatory comments for Sergio Perez as he attributed his inconsistent focus to his ethnicity. Toto Wolff lashed out at Marko for the same with $4.4 billion on the line. What did Wolff say?

F1 isn’t at all tolerable when it comes to any sort of discrimination and also has an initiative named We Race as One to address these issues worldwide. It isn’t good for the sport when you have such an initial and then a senior member of the sport is making such comments. Toto Wolff slammed the Red Bull taskmaster as he explained how Marko’s comments are intolerable and have no place in F1. He then added that just having the mentality to say such a thing is embarrassing.

According to @fiagirly’s Tweet, Toto Wolff said, I think it’s so embarrassing for Formula 1 overall. It’s not even saying it, it’s to have that mindset to even come up with these things.”

While the Red Bull team drivers didn’t seem to take any offense as Helmut Marko had apologized, Lewis Hamilton did seem to take some offense. The Briton slammed Helmut Marko during the Thursday Press Day at the Singapore GP.

Lewis Hamilton has always been at the forefront of fighting any kind of social evil. Helmut Marko’s comments against Checo were not justifiable by any means. Lewis Hamilton explained how it’s unacceptable what Marko said and that having leaders making comments like this isn’t good for F1.

According to Sky Sports, Lewis Hamilton said, “It’s completely unacceptable what he said. Whilst we say there is no room for any type of discrimination within this sport which there should be – no room for it – to have leaders and people in his position making comments like this is not good for us moving forwards.”
