The latest Formula 1 sprint at the Brazilian Grand Prix left many Mercedes supporters with a sour taste, as the team’s performance failed to match expectations. With the term “dreadful” being thrown around to describe the Silver Arrows’ race pace, particularly pointing at their issues with tire wear, the once-dominant constructor found itself on the back foot. Lewis Hamilton found himself embroiled in skirmishes throughout the race, with his P4 start quickly turning into a defensive campaign.
The Briton’s attempt to reclaim a spot from Perez saw him almost losing out to Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, which would be a sign of things to come as Mercedes‘ woes with tire degradation became increasingly evident.
Well, that race pace from Mercedes was dreadful. Poor tyre wear by the look of it, too.
It may well be a long, hard race tomorrow… #F1 #F1Sprint #BrazilGP

Disappointingly for the seven-time World Champion, the last few laps were particularly punishing. Leclerc finally got the better of Hamilton, leaving him to cross the finish line a startling thirty-four seconds after the race leader. This outcome sent waves as fans cast a critical eye toward team principal Toto Wolff and his team for their strategy and car performance.

Fans lose hope for Hamilton glory amid Mercedes’ disappointment at Brazilian GP
Brazil often goes pretty excellent for Lewis Hamilton. Even in a struggle-filled 2022, he finished 2nd in a convincing 1-2 finish at Interlagos. However, the script seems to be genuinely bad for the Silver Arrows 12 months later, reflecting a loss of hope for some Hamilton glory this year. Starting with the tweet showing the most resentment, one user named Gavin commented, clubbing some predictions for the Las Vegas GP as well:
Very poor from mercedes today we have no top speed they are gunna get destroyed at las Vegas with there long straights seem to have gone back wards again

Another user pointed out the lack of raw performance from the Mercedes cars and bluntly stated:
The cars need to go get crushed at the scrapyard totally rubbish
— Sportmadme (@SportMadMe) November 4, 2023
Considering the unpredictable Interlagos weather, this user’s comment struck a chord with many:
Doesn't look good for tomorrow, the race starts a hour and half earlier. Unless somehow its much cooler then they look to be in alot of trouble. Given the are running higher downforce than most it must be in the setup where they have got it wrong.

Questioning the setup of the cars and showing disappointment, one user shared a meme-formatted comment:
😔 They had setup for rain?
Do not understand this big gap….

Another user echoing the setup drama:
Better to start from pits with a different setup

This one’s Sunday might already have been ruined by the Mercedes’ lack of luster today:

I don’t even have a reason to watch the GP anymore 🤦🏾♂️

All eyes will be on how Mercedes responds to this setback. After failing to impress with the setup for high downforce, the Silver Arrows might have to look in other directions but most importantly the rear-view.

Will they bounce back as the champions they are known to be, or is a period of introspection and rebuilding on the cards? Time will tell, for now, the cheers are for Verstappen and his cohort, who have once again shown that they are the ones to beat on the race track.
