In a mind-blowing display of speed and precision at the Qatar Grand Prix, McLaren not only celebrated a victory for Oscar Piastri in the Sprint race. But they also claimed the title for the fastest Formula 1 pit stop for Lando Norris, shattering Red Bull’s long-standing world record. The team’s stellar weekend performance was topped off by a double podium in the Grand Prix on Sunday, marking a significant achievement for the Woking-based team.

The Qatar Grand Prix was distinctive in Formula 1 history as it introduced a new regulation mandating maximum stint lengths for safety reasons. Drivers were required to make pit stops after completing no more than 18 laps on their tires, resulting in a total of 54 pit stops during the 57-lap race. The record-breaking pitstop lands McLaren’s name alongside Formula 1 luminary Lewis Hamilton who holds a special Guinness World Record.

The record-breaking moment came on Lap 27 when the pit crew of Lando Norris executed a lightning-fast pit stop in just 1.80 seconds, breaking the world record set by Red Bull in the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, which stood at 1.82 seconds.McLaren’s name has now gone down in the Guinness Book of World Records for their extraordinary achievement.

Despite Red Bull’s continuous dominance in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award, McLaren has added another feather to their cap by joining the likes of Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton, who holds a Guinness World Record of his own. The record in focus is the most consecutive Formula 1 races led. The British driver led an astounding 18 straight races from July 27, 2014, to July 5, 2015, breaking the record set in 1970 by Jackie Stewart.

Lewis Hamilton’s impressive run finally came to an end at the Hungarian Grand Prix when, despite being in pole position, he was overtaken during the first lap by eventual race winner Sebastian Vettel. This record, alongside many others, has solidified Hamilton’s status as one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history.

Now, McLaren, with their unparalleled pit stop, has entered the elite league. The team recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to showcase the reception of the certificate for their record.

Alongside his team, Lando Norris has also etched his name in Formula 1 history by winning an award that was previously won by the likes of Verstappen and Hamilton.

Lando Norris gets in the same league as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton

McLaren’s star, Lando Norris, has clinched the prestigious Lorenzo Bandini Trophy owing to his spectacular form in the second half of the 2023 season after McLaren had a major upgrade. This accolade, previously claimed by Lando’s fellow drivers such as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, is an annual tribute to the late Lorenzo Bandini, an esteemed champion who tragically lost his life in a fiery crash during the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix.

The decision-making process behind the award is entrusted to a panel of 12 judges, comprising both motorsports journalists and former F1 team members. Unlike conventional criteria based on race results and finishing positions, the emphasis lies on the recipient’s character and their overall approach to the sport.
