Facing challenges both global and personal, Hamilton’s candid reflections capture the heart and soul of a champion, reminding us that behind every victory and defeat, there’s a deeply human story. Let’s delve into his raw and revealing words following the recent US GP.

Post the US Grand Prix, Hamilton was candid about his struggles. He confessed, “Honestly, it was really difficult after the last race. Firstly with everything that’s going on in the world and the obviously the big mistake that I made.”

Pointing to the global happenings and a personal error he felt let his team down, Hamilton showcased resilience, saying, “I really felt like I let the team down so much, so I had to go through a real deep process of getting myself back to here. Again, it’s one of those experiences of it’s not how you fall it’s how you get back up. Came in fighting, felt great. Really happy with this result.” As always, the Mercedes champion came back fighting, indicating his satisfaction with his performance in Austin, even wishing for a few more laps to turn the tables.

In the afterglow of the United States Grand Prix, the Mercedes camp had a bit of a chin-scratch. It seems the team’s strategy playbook had a page missing! Toto Wolff, the Mercedes boss, admitted that an indecisive pit strategy probably cost Lewis Hamilton the top step at the Circuit of the Americas.

Toto Wolff’s US Grand Prix strategy regret

Hamilton, displaying his usual finesse, wrapped up the race just a breath away from Max Verstappen, trailing by a mere two seconds. The thrill was palpable, especially in the last laps where Hamilton seemed to have strapped on a pair of wings. For those playing armchair strategist at home, Mercedes had the upper hand with track position early on.

Yet, they didn’t quite jump when Verstappen played his undercut card on Lap 17. A little hesitation, a sprinkle of indecision on the one-stop vs. two-stop strategy, and suddenly Hamilton found himself trying to bridge a 6-second gap.

Shrugging off the could-have-been, Toto Wolff told Sky, “Dragging out to a one-stop was a valid thing at that stage but we lost so much time over two laps. That’s what lost the race.” Reflecting on their thought process, Wolff explained their catch-22: “We needed just four more laps to go with a one-stop. He was 20 seconds behind us and then the tire just dropped and we lost the gap.”
