For months on end, the future of Lewis Hamilton was the talk of the F1 town. The seven-time world champion’s expiring contract brought a scenario for change after almost a decade. Many came prowling as the contract extension kept stalling. However, as we near the end of Hamilton’s Mercedes contract there is more confidence in the Brit’s future. That was not always the case which made the entire Mercedes team a bit stressed. Although, addressing the topic of his future for the millionth time, Hamilton finally put all rumors and uncertainty to rest.

The circus has returned from a short break and has landed in the Dutch land. However, before we go racing in Zandvoort, Hamilton addressed his future and gave a definitive answer as seen on Twitter. He expressed his gratitude toward Toto Wolff and Mercedes for their continued support. He also revealed the plan of action toward the common goal.

“Year after year you learn more and more about… It’s all about growth, it’s all about growing together. It’s about figuring out how you need to do that both on and off the track. Toto’s a great boss! Mercedes has been a huge supporter of mine for such a long time.”

“I don’t think there’s particularly stress between us. We trust each other, we know we also have the same goals and we know we can do that together,” said Hamilton in the media pen to Sky Sports.

Despite the confidence in the inevitable extension, there were times when even Wolff felt it could go either way. The Austrian boss even issued a concerning statement about Hamilton’s future in the past. Although the extension now is a mere formality.

Not just Toto Wolff though, after the events of the past couple of years, even Hamilton speculated on his future.

The Brit suffered the most heartbreaking outcome to a season anyone could ever experience. The 2021 season definitely took a toll on Hamilton as he went into isolation. However, he came back hungrier than ever only to be subdued by the poor state of the Mercedes challenger. These incidents made even Hamilton consider taking a break from F1. The Brit quickly put these thoughts aside and shifted his focus to his ultimate goal, the eighth championship title.

“You could say this could’ve been a good time to have taken a sabbatical. But in natural fact, I’m very hands-on. I want to be hands-on in the development and the direction the car is going. I know what I need in a car and I know how to work with the team in order to get there. So you just have to work through it,” said Hamilton.

The hungry Hamilton is still alive and clicking more than ever now. The W14 might not be a capable enough car but Mercedes is on the right developmental path and there is hope. Hope that will keep the Brit in the sport and with Mercedes for the foreseeable future.
