Apart from all the action on track, Formula 1 is a sport that is played off the track as well. This is where the politics and mind games take over to get a competitive advantage over their rivals. Red Bull and Mercedes engaged in such an off-track battle throughout most of the 2021 season. However, two years later with no sense of competition between the two teams, Lewis Hamilton tried to play the mind games again but received a lot of backlash for it.

The Brit slyly tried to put the FIA on Red Bull‘s back with suggestions that he’d never seen a car so powerful and dominant as the RB19. His statements turned the entire Red Bull team against him and he faced a lot of public criticism. Now, speaking on the Eff Won podcast with Hollywood actor Dax Shepard, Christian Horner has mocked the Brit once again.

The British boss, similar to many who follow the sport, was perplexed by Hamilton’s comments about never seeing a more dominant car. Addressing the comments for the first time and even now Christian Horner pointed out how delusional Hamilton sounds. In fact, the Red Bull boss called the seven-time world champion out for his selective memory.

Shepard asked, “When you’re hearing Lewis – state that he’s never seen never seen a car that was so dominant. When we have data that he has outqualified people by two seconds. How do you take that?”

Horner replied, “I feel that he’s got selective memory. So you know, some of the winning that they did in that period was just obscene. Yes, we’ve had a good run for a couple of years, but the one guy that shouldn’t be saying that, I would think is Lewis.”

Shepard added, “He’s about the only person that can’t be mad that some team is dominant.”

It’s always fun to be high and mighty and mock the hypocrisy of someone else. However, in this sport of Formula 1 where cars go around in a crooked circle, so does karma.

Fans point out Christian Horner’s contrasting views on dominance in F1

Everyone’s perspective in Formula 1 changes depending on the position they’re in. Lewis Hamilton might say he hasn’t seen a more dominant car after dominating for eight long years. During Hamilton’s era of domination, the rival teams made statements similar to the ones Hamilton made about Red Bull. However, now that rival team’s boss also changed his opinion when they’re on top.

Christian Horner is accused of exactly that. Back in 2015, Horner made a statement for the sake of the fans when Mercedes was dominating. He said, “The problem is that the gap [to Mercedes] is so big that you end up with three-tier racing and that is not healthy for Formula 1.”

Now, when he and his team are in the driving seat, the Brit’s perspective has changed. In a recent interview, Horner said, “There’s not one ounce of me that wishes that [RB would face some title challenge].”

How times change. However, such is the nature of Formula 1. No one team stays on top and no one person has the same perspective over an extended period. The only constant is change!
