Lewis Hamilton has a propensity for being a trendsetter. But with that fact also comes a reality that many of us mere mortals can’t match him or his quirks on and off the track! Be that as it may, the 7x champion now shares a cosmic relationship with some of the globe’s biggest A-listers. And it all boils down to the Brit’s artistic choices at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix.

The 38-year-old was sporting a striking new helmet design made in collaboration with Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. All eyes were on the Brit, quite literally, as Hamilton sported a sleek all-chrome crash helmet that gave all of us some Daft Punk vibes. The 7 times world champion can be singled out in the F1 paddock for his love for the eccentric. In the wider spectrum, Hamilton now shares a commonality with the likes of Elon Musk, Kanye West, and The Weeknd, after his collaboration with Sorayama.

On the day both Musk and West celebrated 10 years of their friendship, back in 2020, the duo posed for Instagram. And behind them stood a pristine, iconic model. This is where an eerie connection between the duo and Hamilton developed, 3 years on.

According to Metro UK, “In the glass case, the outline of a body can be seen, and Musk reportedly coughed up $150,000 for the artwork. The sexy robot figure was part of Hajime Sorayama’s Sexy Robot_Floating work, which saw six of the robots in glass cases installed in a dark room, with spotlights illuminating the figures.”

In racing circles, the Brit goes by the moniker of 7x champ. In musical circles, he’s known better as XNDA. Naturally, his musical ‘colleagues’ also share a certain affinity for similar stylization.

Both The Weeknd and Lewis Hamilton are undisputed heavyweights in their own arenas. That being said, greats always recognize greats, and while the Brit debuted Sorayama in the F1 paddock last week, The Weeknd did the honors just a few months ago.

Back in July, The Weeknd kicked off the European leg of his ‘After Hours Til Dawn‘ stadium tour with an ode to Sorayama. He posted on his Instagram, “We building a chrome metropolis for this leg,” and shared a WIP Sorayama statue in the background that would feature in his shows.
