Formula 1 can sometimes be a cruel mistress, but for George Russell, today’s race will become an absolutely heart-shattering memory. After patiently waiting all Grand Prix long, it seemed as though the racing gods favored the Brit to secure his 2nd F1 win. But with the temperatures rising at the Singapore Grand Prix, the Silver Arrows star finally gave in as he squandered at least a podium finish at the very last lap of the race.

Carlos Sainz pulled off an absolute blinder in the closing stages of the race as he backed Lando Norris into the freshly-pitted Mercedes duo of Russell and Lewis Hamilton. This gave Hamilton the impetus to ditch the team game and pressurize Russell. However, that pressure got the better of the young Brit as he binned his W14 into the barriers of the Marina Bay Circuit. Alas, George went from hero to zero in a span of just one corner.

The Mercedes cars were insanely rapid to not just get a podium but a 1-2 indeed. Although with Carlos Sainz & Lando Norris cleverly defending, it just got the better of Russell’s patience.
