Every decision, every turn, every corner, and every race has massive consequences in the world of Formula 1. One race can make or break a driver and Felipe Massa is living through this reality. The ex-Ferrari man is currently in a legal battle with the FIA demanding compensation worth a whopping $13 million for the 2008 crash gate incident. The incident that occurred in the 2008 Singapore GP changed the fate of the driver’s championship as Lewis Hamilton pipped the Brazilian in the overall standings. After months of this ongoing battle, the Brazilian has called out his former team for their lack of support in his legal battle.
Massa initially wanted F1’s governing body to dismiss the 2008 Singapore GP, which would’ve made him the champion. After the FIA’s noncompliance in stripping Hamilton of his first championship, the Brazilian turned his attention to them. As the legal battle continues and the Brazilian keeps making the headlines, speaking to the media, as quoted by Express, he took a subtle dig at Ferrari in his latest remarks.
“I have hired a team of very strong lawyers. We will fight to the end to obtain justice in this sport. I don’t understand why a case of manipulation cannot be verified in the way right, even if a year, two years or 15 years later. At this moment I have not yet had the support of Ferrari, but I expect help from them. I am optimistic: I will fight for the justice until the end,” said Massa.

However, despite his best efforts, he has made little to no headway as many point to the 2021 championship drama to quash his claims. Massa’s efforts suffered another setback from its key witness.

This drama started after the comments of ex-F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone came to light. In those comments, Ecclestone allegedly claimed to have knowledge of the foul play behind the 2008 Singapore GP. This gave the Massa’s revenge some steam which set him on this course to restore parity.
However, now that this legal battle has gathered enough momentum and Massa is actively pursuing justice, Ecclestone derailed his efforts. The British billionaire went back on his words and claimed to have no memory of his comments. He said, “I don’t remember any of this, to be honest.” And added, “I don’t remember giving the interview for sure.”
