After many years of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ dominance, the 2021 season finally brought Red Bull and Max Verstappen into play. After almost a decade, the fight for the title between the two teams had been so close and fierce. Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel in 2012 were the last time when the result came down to the wire. To save the declining F1, a blunt directive is sent FIA’s way by Lewis Hamilton. But what did the Brit say?

After the 2021 season, many expected Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen to fight for the upcoming titles. However, Red Bull’s prowess and Mercedes’ inability to match the Milton Keynes base resulted in one team dominating once again. Only this time around it is Red Bull. According to M4 Sport’s YouTube video, Hamilton said, “I think we as a sport need to work better on how the rules are set so that fans aren’t deprived of that tight close battle between several teams for a whole era.”

Red Bull started development of their 2024 much earlier than any other team. And that makes sense as the Red Bull going into the summer break was easily the quickest car. Even if other teams develop, Red Bull still will be on top. Hence Lewis Hamilton suggested that teams should refrain from starting development in the next season’s car before a specific date.

According to si.com, Lewis Hamilton said, “They don’t have to make any changes to this year’s car anymore as they’re so far ahead. He’s cruising at 100 points ahead of us. I think the FIA should probably put a time when everyone is allowed to start developing on the next year’s car. So August 1, that’s when everybody can start so then no one can get an advantage on the next year, cause that sucks.”
