After the young Brit beat the 7x champ last season, there has been a constant surge for power between the two Mercedes drivers. The 7x champ Lewis Hamilton isn’t exactly pleased by how Russell is challenging him for the No.1 driver spot. Amid all this, Lewis Hamilton recently revealed his plan to fight against George Russell’s challenge. What did Hamilton say?
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were at each other during the entirety of the Japanese GP. It seemed as if it wasn’t only about getting the maximum points home but also beating their teammate. George Russell’s “Are we fighting each other or what” radio message clearly highlighted the power struggle between the two Mercedes drivers. However, Lewis Hamilton has never backed down from a fight and came out with a fiery statement to combat George Russell.

In a recent interview, Lewis Hamilton was asked about his winless streak. The Brit hasn’t won a race in about 2 years now. He was questioned about how he feels about having 103 wins, yet being winless in 38 races. The recently struggling Hamilton advised motivation can be found in any way, shape, or form and that even battling with Russell gives him motivation. According to blick.ch, Lewis Hamilton said, “Yes. The duels with my team-mate George also give me motivation. You always have to be wide awake.”

Nonetheless, the Red Bull veteran did advise on George Russell causing troubles to Hamilton and the motivation might soon turn in vain for the 7x champ.
David Coulthard reminds Lewis Hamilton of George Russell being a thorn in his way.

Mercedes knew from day 1 that George Russell wasn’t one of those drivers who’s happy to play the No.2 driver role. The young Brit has many times been referred to as the future world champion. The ambition and hunger of George Russell is what makes him a thorn in Lewis Hamilton’s way. There can only be one World Champion. If Mercedes is able to produce a competitive car, it surely is going to be a tight title fight.
According to the Formula for Success podcast, Coulthard said, “I loved it when he was on the radio saying, ‘What can we do to win this Grand prix’. But he [George], it’s a bit of a thorn in the side of Lewis because he’s not the perfect wingman and he’s not going to go yes sir or no sir. He is a classic hungry race driver and that means Lewis is just an inconvenience to him.”
