Even though the Italian team Scuderia Ferrari is ahead of their German counterpart Mercedes in F1 in 2022, the German team did the opposite in F4. Mercedes made sure they have their hands on the F4 trophy through their prodigy Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Mercedes, who are proud, have shared Kimi’s brilliance on their official Instagram account.

In the Instagram post, the German team applauded their junior driver, Kimi Antonelli, who won the last two races out of three at Nurburgring to pick up the championship.

‘Grande Kimi!! ADAC F4 Champion! Our junior driver @kimi.antonelli secured the title yesterday with victory in two of the three races at the Nurburgring!” said the post.

Kimi, who won nine out of 15, held off rival Taylor Barnard from Great Britain. The Italian driver picked up 313 to end the season with the victory, while Barnard only managed 266.

Despite being a driver of Italian origin, Antonelli snubbed Ferrari to join Mercedes as their junior driver and has now added an F4 trophy to their cabinet. Kimi, who drives for Prema Racing, has been part of Mercedes’s junior driver team since 2019.

It’s Mercedes vs Ferrari for P2 in 2022

Despite losing the F4 championship to Mercedes, Ferrari can still fight for P2 in the constructors’ championship in F1. While Red Bull is sure to take the constructors’ title, the first time after 2013, the team from Italy and Germany can settle for the fight for second place.

The Maranello-based team is in P2 with 454 points, while the Brackley-based team are in P3 with 387 points. Ferrari has an advantage of 67 points with four races to go this season. Scuderia Ferrari, who won in Bahrain, Australia, Great Britain, and Austria, saw their P2 rivals without a win this year.

The Italians picked up four wins, 11 poles, and 17 podiums so far in 2022, while the Germans are still to win a race this year. So far, they’ve picked up only one pole and 13 podiums. Interestingly, Mercedes’ last win was in Saudi Arabia when Lewis Hamilton held off Max Verstappen for the win.

All in all, it’ll be interesting to see how Ferrari tries to hold on to their P2 position in 2022, with just four races to go. As for Mercedes, their task will be to win at least one race this season and close the gap to Ferrari. Who will succeed between them? Only time will tell.
