“Talent wins games, but teamwork wins championships” – this quote from Michael Jordan is something Lewis Hamilton lives by. And thus, the 7-time F1 World Champion has always put his team, Mercedes, above all else. Lewis Hamilton is a major force behind Mercedes’ success as a top team in Formula 1. But now, Hamilton will be hanging his boots as a Merc racer to shift to Maranello. But he made sure to make things alright with the team that has tirelessly worked behind the scenes for his 104 Grand Prix wins.
After winning the British GP, Lewis Hamilton broke down on the team radio. And the first words to leave his mouth were: “Thank you guys.” He appreciated his entire crew, who played a part in his first race win in 2.5 years. He even said, “I love you, Bono” to his engineer Peter Bonnington to show that he values the Briton like a brother. So, this proves Lewis Hamilton holds his Mercedes squad close to his heart and the move to Ferrari will not be an easy one for him.
After the British GP, Hamilton felt all the emotions about leaving a team he had been in for 12 years. However, he still has to uphold the deal he has made with the Scuderia. Thus, he made his way to the Mercedes factory to chat with the team he values so much. He discussed how he will not be with them in the next season. Remembering that moment, Merc’s Chief Communications Officer Bradley Lord spoke in ‘The Fast and the Curious’ podcast, “He came into the factory, and that was the first time he spoke to the entire factory since the start of the season. He hadn’t had the chance to just talk to everyone about the Ferrari decision.”

Lewis Hamilton considers the Mercedes crew as his family, and he did not want what he shared with them to be shared publicly. So, Bradley continued, “He asked us not to put a video out. But he was incredibly honest, vulnerable open, and authentic. You know, [that was] the most vulnerable I’ve seen him in the 12 years I’ve worked with him. It clearly means a lot.” Hamilton has made sure he cleared the air about his Ferrari shift, but what did he say about whether he’d regret the move or not?

However, Hamilton has stayed affixed to his decision by dismissing all talks about regret. When an interviewer asked him this question, he simply said, “No, not at all.” But the rumors about the 39-year-old regretting his choice of team for the 2025 campaign are not baseless. Yes, it is true that the Scuderia started this season on a strong foot with wins for both their recruits, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. But the team’s results fell apart when Mercedes and McLaren started developing their cars.
Currently, Ferrari is in the third spot in the Championship, with Mercedes looking like it might surpass the Italian outfit soon. The last time Ferrari won an F1 title was in 2008.
